Police on Monday rescued a man abducted from Urlabari-based Bhutanese refugee camp in Morang district five days ago and arrested three of his captors from Barhathawa-9 in Sarlahi.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Sharad Chand said 21-year-old Bhutanese refugee Radhakrishna Neupane was rescued from a house in Barhathawa-9, where he had been held hostage for the past five days. Police arrested Birendra Yadav, Rajdev Chaudhary and Suresh Chaudhary from the scene.
SP Chand said Yadav had planned the abduction with the intention of obtaining refugee status as Neupane’s relative so that he could apply for third country resettlement programme.
Yadav had been calling Neupane’s sister over phone and pressuring her to acknowledge him as a family relative to ensure her brother’s safe return.
Police had tracked Yadav’s mobile phone to locate his whereabouts.
Yadav was earlier arrested by police on the charge of possessing weapon.
Saralhi district police is preparing to submit Yadav and his two accomplices to Morang police.
