Kantipur Hospital tense after patient's death

FEB 26 - The Tinkune-based Kantipur Hospital remained tense on Monday after relatives of Ramesh Shrestha, 34, of Tinkune, who died while undergoing treatment in the hospital, blamed doctors for negligence and demanded compensation.
According to Nishan Singh Thapa, a relative of deceased, Shrestha was admitted to the hospital after complaining of abdominal pain on February 17. "The doctor initially told us that it was just normal pain," Thapa said. "However, after five days, all of a sudden, he was admitted to the ICU and then operated on. This morning, they told us that he died of kidney failure and high blood pressure, something that we didn't even know he was suffering from."
While many of the irate people on the hospital premises said Dr Asarphi Shah checked the patient, Dr Shah told the Post that he was not involved in the operation. "Another doctor conducted the operation. I am not involved in this case," Dr Shah said. Executive Director of the hospital Himalaya Malla was not available for comment.
Meanwhile, police arrested two people for vandalising hospital infrastructure.
